The impressive historical building was built in 1748 by the Lubelli Barons. Through the main portal there is a metal ashlar where you can see the baronial coat of arms. Beyond it, you can see a square courtyard, which is still used today for many cultural events. From the historical building, reconstructed in the XIXth century, you can clearly see the Adriatic sea usually with many boats upon it. When there’s a clear sky and the northern wind blows, you can see the Albanian coast. The Lubelli Family is one of the oldest and noblest families in Salento. Lubelli’s name comes from the castle of Buel in Burgundy; from there they moved to Italy with the coming of Charlemagne. In the XIIth Century it was decorated with the “Military Cingulum”. They also received the ”The Knighthood of the Golden Spur” and in 1625, they were accepted by the “Jerusalem Military Order of Malta”; another honour received by the family was the “Jus Patronato” on the altar of the Beata Vergine of Rosary in the Saint John the Baptist’s church in Lecce.
